Watch Colin Slade lift struggling Pau to victory over Montpellier

Colin Slade ignored the instructions of his coach and captain to guide Pau to a stunning comeback win at Montpellier.

Pau trailed 16-9 with 11 minutes remaining when they were awarded a penalty inside kicking range.

Three points would have secured a losing bonus point for the Top 14 strugglers but Slade instead opted to kick for touch, and he touched down beside the posts from the subsequent lineout.

The All Blacks fly-half kicked the conversion to level the scores and he also slotted a penalty on 77 minutes to snatch a 19-16 victory.

"I play the game to win and looking back on it, we might have taken the three, but it worked out alright," said Slade, who scored all of his side's points.

"The important thing is we backed the decision and made it work.

"In hindsight it was a good decision. If we didn't score maybe it'd have gotten told off by the coach."
