Veteran Wales centre Jamie Roberts looks set to be the surprise name when Warren Gatland announces his British and Irish Lions squad on Wednesday, Sky Sports News HQ understands.
Gatland concluded his final selection meeting on Tuesday afternoon with England's Joe Launchbury, Jonathan Joseph, George Ford and Mike Brown all set to be absentees from his 37-man party to tour New Zealand this summer.
Roberts, 30, who now plays for Harlequins, is a stalwart of two Lions' tours and still highly regarded by Gatland, even though his last six Test appearances for Wales have come from the bench.
His vast experience of touring with the Lions' is seen as invaluable on what seems likely to be the team's toughest tour.
Roberts was Man of the Series in South Africa in 2009 and scored the crucial try in the series-clinching victory against Australia in 2013.
Another surprise selection could be Worcester's England centre Ben Te'o, who only made his Test debut last year.
Teo's international opportunities have been limited by the form of Owen Farrell, but he has impressed Gatland and his lieutenants who have closely monitored his progress at the Aviva Premiership club.
