New Zealander negotiates release from North Harbour

New Newcastle signing Jimmy Gopperth will team up with the Falcons in time for the start of the 2009-10 season after he negotiated an early release from North Harbour. The 25-year-old former Junior All Black fly-half was initially been due arrive at Kingston Park after completing his commitments with North Harbour in the Air New Zealand Cup. However the Blues ace will now head to Newcastle in time for pre-season, much to the delight of director of rugby Steve Bates. "Finalising Jimmy's release for the start of the season is a massive boost to the club, because it allows him a summer training with us so we can really hit the ground running with him on board," said Bates. "We have seen during the Super 14 what a quality player he is, he has a bit of everything and will be a vital back line leader for us as we enter what promises to be an exciting season for the club."
