Edinburgh winger on two shortlists for Magners League Awards

Edinburgh's Tim Visser has been nominated for both the Players' Player and Young Player of the Season awards ahead of the inaugural Magners League Awards ceremony. The Dutch winger enjoyed a fantastic debut season at Murrayfield, ending up as the league's leading try scorer and being named in the competition's dream team. However, he will have strong competition as Ospreys' Tommy Bowe, Aled Brew of the Dragons, and Cardiff pair Xavier Rush and Ceri Sweeney are also on the Players' Player shortlist. Visser's Edinburgh team-mate Roddy Grant will also be in contention for the Young Player award, which is open to players who were under 23 and uncapped at the beginning of last season. The new club captain is nominated alongside Visser, Glasgow prop Jon Welsh, Cian Healy of Leinster, and Scarlets' Ken Owens.

Ceremony

The Edinburgh duo are excited to be in the running for awards at the ceremony, which will take place at the Millennium Stadium on Monday evening. "I'm absolutely thrilled to have made it on to both shortlists," Visser said. "In terms of the Players' Player nomination, it's a real honour to have won the recognition of my fellow professionals. "It will be strange to be going up against Roddy for the Young Player award, but it's a great thing for the club to have two guys in the running." Grant added: "It's very exciting to be in with a chance. "The fact that both myself and Tim have been shortlisted is a reflection of the level of opportunity young players get at Edinburgh. "The pair of us are extremely grateful to Rob and the rest of the coaching staff for the faith they've shown in us, and we're looking forward to continuing to repay it in the coming season."
