Charlie Hodgson has become the latest addition to the backroom staff at Aviva Premiership newcomers London Irish.

Hodgson, who was capped 38 times by England, has taken up a role of kicking coach with the Exiles.

He announced his retirement at the end of a title-winning 2015-16 campaign with Saracens after a 16-year playing career that also saw him represent Sale Sharks.

Former England women's coach Matthew Ferguson has also joined Nick Kennedy's staff as a scrum coach.

Irish kick off their Premiership campaign against Harlequins on September 2, a game which forms part of the London Double Header at Twickenham.

Kennedy said: "We're really looking forward to the challenge of playing in the Aviva Premiership and the lads are working extremely hard to get themselves ready for the start of the season.

"We know how competitive the Premiership will be and are working to be at our very best week in, week out.
