Leicester and England hooker Tom Youngs has picked up a one-week suspension for striking an opponent in the European Champions Cup.

Youngs was charged with punching Stade Francais prop Rabah Slimani during the second-half of Sunday's game in France, which Stade won 36-21 to secure a place in the quarter-finals.

He was shown a yellow card for the offence by referee George Clancy and was cited for punishment by commissioner Peter Ferguson.

The case of Youngs, who accepted that he committed an act of foul play, was heard on Wednesday by video conference with Welshman Roger Morris the independent judicial officer.

A statement read: "The Judicial Officer found that Youngs had committed an act of foul play that warranted a red card. He determined that the offence was at the low end of World Rugby's sanctions and selected two weeks as the appropriate entry point.

"He reduced the sanction by one week due to the player's clean disciplinary record, expression of remorse, good character and good conduct during the hearing before imposing a suspension of one week."

Youngs will be available to play again on Monday February 1. The player and European Professional Club Rugby have the right to appeal the decision.

Two of the remaining three players cited also came from the game at the Stade Jean Bouin, with Stade Francais second row Paul Gabrillagues and hooker Laurent Sempere also facing punishment.

Gabrillagues was handed an eight-week ban after allegedly making contact with the eye(s) and/or eye area of the Leicester Tigers prop Dan Cole.

Scarlets second row Maselino Paulino has been banned for three weeks for striking Northampton's England lock Courtney Lawes during the Saints' 22-10 win at Parc Y Scarlets on Saturday.

It was found that Paulino had committed an act of foul play that warranted a red card with his offence determined to be at the "mid-range" of World Rugby's sanctions with five weeks selected as the appropriate entry point.

This was reduced by two weeks due to the player's "timely guilty plea, expression of remorse and good conduct at the hearing".

Paulino is free to play on Monday February 15. 2016.
