Australia flanker David Pocock is looking forward to facing All Blacks’ skipper Richie McCaw after two seasons wiped out by knee injuries.

Pocock started at openside flanker during Australia's 34-9 win against Argentina on Saturday, his first match in the No 7 shirt for more than two and a half years.

The Aussies face the All Blacks in two weeks, with the match likely to be the 34-year-old McCaw's swansong on Australian soil.

Before undergoing two knee reconstructions, which forced him to miss the 2013 and 2014 seasons, Pocock's battles with McCaw were fiercely contested with many in the game describing the pair as being the world’s best two current flankers.

The teams clash on August 8 in Sydney and Pocock, 27, told the Sydney Morning Herald: "He's a player I really respect and I relish those moments."

Pocock replaced Michael Hooper for the game against Argentina and the pair will be rivals in the bid to be first choice at this year’s World Cup in England.

Pocock added: "Competition is exactly what you want to be having. It's great with Hoops out there because we enjoy feeding off each other."
