Lions roar back to form with dominant victory in Denver

After back-to-back defeats, the Detroit Lions came roaring back with a clinical 45-10 demolition of the Denver Broncos in Denver. Lions quarterback Matt Stafford had injury concerns before the game but hardly missed a beat as he threw for 267 yards and three touchdowns as Detroit put up their most points on the road since 1967. Calvin Johnson had another huge game with 125 yards receiving and a touchdown while Maurice Morris started at running back and had a TD and 58 yards on 13 carries. Tim Tebow endured a horrible first home start of the season as he had one interception and three fumbles while also taking seven sacks from a dominant Lions defence. Detroit showcased their play-off credentials again with a well-rounded dominant display, which moves them on to 6-2 for the season and incredibly 4-0 away from home.

Early signs

The early signs looked good for Denver as Tebow led a decent drive for Matt Prater to kick a 39-yard field goal, but they shot themselves in the foot straight after. On Detroit's first possession, Denver somehow managed to totally lose Titus Young and the receiver was stood all alone in the end zone to catch Stafford's 41-yard pass for the first touchdown of the game. Young could not believe his luck as some hugely blown coverage left him all on his own, and Stafford, even with a bad ankle, made no mistake in lobbing one of the easiest touchdown throws he will ever have. Jason Hanson had to kick a 50-yarder for the Lions as the Broncos upped their game on defence, but Tebow was struggling under immense pressure from Detroit's talented defensive unit. Stafford was moving pretty well though, and he found tight end Tony Scheffler with a good throw for him to muscle his way into the end zone from one yard out.
Touchdown
Starting running back Maurice Morris, playing in place of concussion victim Jahvid Best, then capped a good first half display by diving in through the middle from a yard out for a 24-3 lead for Detroit. The second half started just as badly as the Lions brought the heat on Tebow, forced the fumble, and Cliff Avril picked up the ball and ran it in for a 24-yard touchdown for the Detroit's defence. Stafford was purring now, and he found his favourite receiver Johnson with a 56-yard touchdown for Megatron's 11th score of the season so far as he enjoyed his fourth consecutive 100-yard game. Things went from bad to worse for Tebow as a poor throw into the end zone was easily picked off by Chris Houston who motored 100 yards back for Detroit's second defensive score of the day. Eric Decker did get a consolation for Denver and Tebow as he ran in a 14-yard pass to end the run of 45 unanswered points from the clinical Lions.
