Current junior world No 16 Hannah Klugman has had an impressive 2023 - but who is Britain's 14-year-old tennis prodigy?

Her impressive and historic run at the ITF W100 Shrewsbury event came to an end on Friday after a 7-5 3-6 6-2 defeat to world No 46 Oceane Dodin.

Prior to Klugman's run at Shrewsbury, the youngest player to qualify for a W100 level event on the ITF Tour was Coco Gauff in Charleston, where she too went to reach the quarter-finals aged just 15 years old, in 2019.

A student at Wimbledon High School, Klugman trains with Ben Haran in Reeds Tennis School in Cobham.

"I've been working with Ben Haran since I was about nine years old. Hopefully he has many more years to come.

"He's a great coach and we've got a great relationship with each other, and I also have Laura Deigman as my fitness coach with me as well," she told Sky Sports during the junior US Open.

Klugman has grown a lot, both from a physical viewpoint, and from a sense of what she can achieve on court.

She was defeated in the third round of Wimbledon by the then No 7 seed Sayaka Ishii, but in New York, she went one round further, defeating Ishii to reach the quarter-finals.

Britain's Hannah Klugman, 14, says she's loving her experience at the US Open after beating third seed Sayaka Ishii and booking her spot in the quarter-finals of the junior tournament

"I think I played a lot more cleverly - changing it up, slicing, different variation of height and I think that's what got me the win," she said at the time.

Her ability to get herself out of trouble with her strong serving and her ability to mix things up to challenge her opponent has seen a steady progression at the Slams this season.

"I'm starting to go deeper into the junior Grand Slams, my game's developing as well," Klugman said.

"Last year I was struggling a bit more with the junior Grand Slams - it was quite a lot for me. I was quite young but now I've got to grips with it and hopefully I can go far."

However, the intense heat proved too much for the Klugman, who lost 6-0 3-0 to Laura Samsonova.

Klugman's parents were also out in New York, and she has already come to appreciate the challenges on the tour, albeit in on the lower tier of professional women's tennis.

She said: "Sometimes travelling gets really lonely so having your small circle round you travelling makes it more fun, and a bit more homely as well having my mum here - that's nice."
