Oscar De La Hoya has laughed off Floyd Mayweather’s suggestion he will be making a comeback.
The pound-for-pound king suggested his old rival will be returning to the ring and was more than happy to finally give him a rematch, over eight years after their first fight.
Mayweather, who beat the 'Golden Boy' on a split decision, was seen on Instagram suggesting that if "Oscar wants it, he can get it", but De La Hoya dismissed the suggestion and after retiring at the end of 2008, is happy to remain just a promoter.
“So I hear Floyd wants to give me a rematch now," he said. "Our first fight had a rematch clause. It had to take place within the year. He retired a year and one day.
“Look, I’m retired, I’m happy, I’m content. I’m never coming back. I’m going to continue growing Golden Boy (the promotional stable).”
De La Hoya was one of the few fighters to push Mayweather all the way in their May 5 showdown back in 2007.
He had dropped down and 'Money' moved up to super-welterweight. De La Hoya felt he had won the fight by at least two rounds only to see the decision go against him.
He pushed for an immediate return only for Mayweather to move back down to welterweight and stop Ricky Hatton seven months later.
De La Hoya returned to the ring and beat Steve Forbes a year after the defeat but then lost to Manny Pacquiao, retiring on his stool in the eighth round and calling it a day.
He was the first man to win world titles at six different weights with Mayweather on five to date.
