Scott Quigg was gutted with his loss to Carl Frampton but knows what he needs to do to get back on track

Scott Quigg expects Carl Frampton to lose to featherweight star Leo Santa Cruz - and is still looking for a rematch with the Northern Irishman.

The former super-bantamweight world champion expects 'The Jackal', who took Quigg's WBA belt from him in a unification battle in February, to lose his unbeaten record when he takes on the Mexican superstar in July.

Frampton (22-0-KO14) will be challenging unbeaten WBC featherweight title holder Santa Cruz (32-0-1-KO18) and Quigg believes moving up to take on a three-weight world champion will be a step too far for his bitter rival.

"I think he gets beat," Quigg exclusively told Sky Sports.

"It's not me being bitter because he got the win over me, I just think, having been in there with him, if I'd have started faster everyone said I'd have won the fight.

"I think Santa Cruz is a bit bigger than me and he'll start off like a train and it's whether or not Frampton can out-box him for 12 rounds.

What surprised me when I was in with him was his power: he wasn't the thunderous puncher he's got a bit of a reputation for being.

"If he can't put a dent in Santa Cruz he is going to be in for a very tough night."

Quigg (31-1-2-KO23) is now back in the gym after taking a break following the Frampton defeat at the end of February.

There is a possibility Quigg will challenge WBA Super super-bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux, if a mandatory defence against Moises Flores does not materialise.

Quigg believes it would be "easy" to make the fight with Rigondeaux but made it clear that once the broken jaw he sustained in the points loss against Frampton has healed, he not only wants to win a wold title again but is still hoping to avenge his first professional defeat.

"I want the biggest fights possible and I am going to sit down with [promoter] Eddie Hearn," he said. "But I do want that rematch. I don't say I have regrets because I have to learn out of it, I have no excuses.

"I knew he was going to be sharp early on so if I'd have bulldozed in from the first bell I'd have probably been caught with a shot. The idea was to go from the fourth round and that's when I started having a good round, but that's when the jaw went.

"There are no excuses though. But I will be a world champion this year."
