The Hundred: SunRisers Leeds thrash London Spirit after scoring 241 to set highest total in tournament history

SunRisers Leeds posted 241-2, the highest score in the history of The Hundred, before cruising to a comfortable victory over London Spirit.

Having been put into bat by Spirit at Headingley, SunRisers openers Mitchell Marsh and Ryan Rickelton put on a record stand of 148 for the first wicket from just 65 balls.

Harry Brook joined in on the fun once Marsh was out for 76 from 37 balls, with the England white-ball captain smashing 55 from just 18 deliveries.

Brook struck a six to bring up his half-century and take SunRisers past the previous highest Hundred total, the 226-4 set by Oval Invincibles against Welsh Fire last year.

After Brook was caught looking for one more boundary, Dan Lawrence added 10 from the final three deliveries, as Rickelton was left stranded six short a century after not finding his way back onto strike for the final eight balls of the innings.

Any hopes Spirit had of staging a remarkable fightback were quickly dampened by Johnny Bairstow getting caught behind by Rickleton from the bowling of Reece Topley with just the second ball of the innings.

Spirit captain Liam Livingstone got the scoreboard moving with 34 from 13 but saw Lhuan-dre Pretorius fall to Topley at the other end before losing his own wicket to Nathan Ellis.

James Coles and James Rew soon also departed to leave Spirit 56-5 from 26 balls, and with the game all but over.

From there, Matthew Revis (38 from 21), David Willey (83 not out from 46) and Jamie Overton (27 not out from 15) put up some resistance, but there was never a realistic prospect of Spirit chasing down the target.

Spirit did post the joint-fifth highest total in the men's tournament's history as they reached 204-6, but that was only good enough for a 37-run defeat.

Match Hero Rickelton said: "Both teams batted incredibly well. You realise the wicket is so good you've got to get as many as you can. You have to accept the ball is going to be flying but try to stay one step ahead."

The result keeps SunRisers' hopes of advancing from the group stage intact, with the victory moving them up to fourth in the table, and level on points with third-placed MI London.

"Five wins is the benchmark, and if you can win your games at home that helps," Rickelton added.

Spirit remain with just one victory after five games, with their hopes of qualifying all but over.

What's next in The Hundred?

The Hundred continues with a double-header on Wednesday. Manchester Super Giants host Welsh Fire at Emirates Old Trafford, with the women's fixture starting at 11.30am and the men's contest following at 3pm.

Then at Trent Bridge, Trent Rockets host Birmingham Phoenix, with the women's match getting under way at 3pm ahead of the men's game at 6.30pm.
