England wicketkeeper Jos Buttler has defended the decision of one-day captain Eoin Morgan to stay at home and not travel with the England squad for their tour of Bangladesh.

Buttler, who will now captain the side for three ODIs on the tour, revealed he had thought about staying at home himself before announcing his availability.

In July, 29 people were killed in a terror attack in Dhaka which lead to discussion over whether players would make themselves unavailable for the tour. Alex Hales has also pulled out.

"There has been some unfair criticism," said Buttler. "Cricket is not the be-all and end-all. He has made the decision that is right for him and it is not one he has taken lightly. He has come to one which he is comfortable with and people should respect that.

"Reading things in the press and having a lot of information about it, you do have some worries. But you try and think long and hard about it, let the dust settle for a bit and try and work through it logically.

"For me personally, I'm happy to go. It's a completely individual position, as it has to be; people are different and view things differently - and everyone completely respects that it is a personal decision."

The England and Wales Cricket Board sent a three-man team to Bangladesh to inspect security arrangements, due to concerns following July's attacks, and security director Reg Dickason announced in August that the tour would go ahead.

Morgan officially announced his discomfort on Friday and will not travel, something past England cricketers such as Michael Vaughan and Nasser Hussain have heavily criticised.

Buttler rejected suggestions that the withdrawals of Morgan and Hales would cause dressing-room unrest however and praised Morgan's past successes as captain.

"It definitely won't," Buttler said. "We're a very, very tight group of players. Everyone's very good friends in that set-up and we want it to remain that way. We won't let anything like this come between any of us in the side."

"He's [Morgan] very much still the captain of the England ODI side. He's done a fantastic job over the last 18 months.

"He's been one of the main reasons, if not the main reason, for the turnaround in fortunes. The style of cricket he's got the side playing is something we want to continue and keep playing that brand of cricket."
