Gujarat opener Samit Gohel beat the 117-year-old record for the highest score by an opener carrying his bat in first-class cricket.
Surrey's Bobby Abel scored 357no against Somerset in 1899, and his record stood until Tuesday, when Gohel scored 359no against Odisha in the quarter-finals of the Ranji Torphy, India's top domestic competition.
No 11 Harshal Patel (18) played a crucial role, hanging on to help add 72 with Gohel for the last wicket, allowing the opener to beat the record.
Gujarat posted 641 in the second innings, with Priyank Panchal finishing as their second highest scorer with 81.
Gohel, who scored just four in the first innings, becomes only the fourth triple-centurion to carry his bat - the last instance of it was 81 years ago.
