Durham County Council is investigating a partial stand collapse that left three fans injured during England's T20 with Windies.

A section of the North-East Terrace at Emirates Riverside became unstable during England's innings at around 9.30pm, leaving one woman with a broken leg and forcing the area to be evacuated.

England lost the game by 21 runs in their first T20 against Windies since they were beaten by the same opposition in the 2016 ICC World Twenty20 Final in Kolkata.

The county council released a statement on Monday afternoon in which it confirmed it would hold an investigation to "understand the cause of the incident and any ramifications for future events".

Durham also confirmed that their County Championship fixture against Sussex on Tuesday would ahead as scheduled.

Around 200 spectators in the terrace, previously used at the 2012 Olympics, were moved to other areas inside the Riverside as a precaution by stewards and police.

The North East Ambulance Service responded to a 999 call and took the woman to Newcastle's RVI Hospital, where she was admitted and kept overnight.

Durham have already begun an internal investigation into the cause of the accident, which includes taking witness statements from stewards and those who gave medical assistance.

The club will also co-operate with any relevant external body.

They confirmed in a previous statement that the stand was in compliance with a recent security check, but Durham will make no further comment until all investigations are complete.
