The all-rounder's 108 from 93 balls underpinned Hampshire's 307 all out, with South Africa batsman Aiden Markram adding 88 and captain and England batsman James Vince making 28. SCORECARD
Dawson then chipped in with two wickets as Surrey were dismissed for 254 - Mark Stoneman top-scoring with 71 - and Hampshire leapfrogged Somerset in the table following a fifth win in six.
Sussex sit third following a thrilling one-wicket win over Essex at Chelmsford, with No 9 Danny Briggs (37no) sealing victory with back-to-back boundaries off Dan Lawrence in the final over. SCORECARD
Sussex's hopes looked over after they slumped to 94-6 in pursuit of Essex's 283-7, in which Lawrence (54) and Tom Westley (61) notched half-centuries.
But a 121-run stand between Laurie Evans (68) and Will Beer (75) resuscitated the away side and when they fell, Briggs kept his cool.
Glamorgan chalked up just a second win of the campaign after seeing off Gloucestershire by 74 runs at Bristol.
Chris Cooke struck 161, while Billy Root was run out for 98 as Glamorgan posted 331-7 - Cooke and Root putting on 243 for the fifth wicket - before Gloucestershire were bowled out for 257. SCORECARD

Lancashire slipped from 151-3 to 198-7 in reply to Durham's 229 all out before Rob Jones (33no) and Graham Onions (16no) steered them home with four balls to spare.
Lancashire's win rendered the 115 scored by former Yorkshire batsman Alex Lees in vain - Lees passing fifty for the fourth game running in the One-Day Cup.
Wayne Madsen's unbeaten 119 propelled Derbyshire to a five-wicket victory over Warwickshire at The 3aaa County Ground - the home side topping the Bears' 288-7 in 46.3 overs. SCORECARD
