Left-hander lands Player of the Year award
Somerset opener Marcus Trescothick capped off a sensational domestic campaign by being named the Natwest PCA Player of the Year.
The classy left hander held off competition from former England team-mate Andrew Strauss and Durham duo Ian Blackwell and Graham Onions to clinch the award, which was previously held by Kent's Martin van Jaarsveld.
England skipper Strauss and Onions were nominated for impressive displays in international cricket, but it was Trescothick's form in the domestic game which helped him clinch the award, which is voted for by all county players.
Trescothick scored 1,817 championship runs at an average of 75 in 2009 as he helped guide Somerset to a third-place finish in Division One of the LV County Championship.
The 33-year-old notched eight centuries during the championship season and was also an integral part of the Twenty20 squad which steered Somerset to Twenty20 finals day, and ultimately the inaugural Champions League.
Stunning season
Promising Leicestershire batsman James Taylor also overcame international competition to secure the Young Player of the Year award.
The 19-year-old pipped England duo Stuart Broad and Adil Rashid to the accolade after scoring 1,177 first-class runs at an average of 58.85.
The England U19 international stated that his highlight was his eye-catching 207 not out against Surrey at the Brit Oval in July. He also helped himself to three 100s and six 50s during the campaign.
Former England skipper Michael Vaughan, who retired from cricket this summer, won the ECB Special Award, while Strauss picked up this year's PCA Special Merit Award.
Trescothick and Strauss were named in the PCA Team of the Year, as were England Test internationals Broad, Onions and Jonathan Trott, who capped a stunning season with Warwickshire by being handed his England debut in the final Ashes Test.
Durham's Blackwell, Ed Joyce (Sussex), Craig Kieswetter (Somerset), James Foster (Essex), James Tredwell (Kent) and Steve Kirby (Gloucestershire) completed the line up.
