Craig Overton will join up with England’s one-day squad as cover for Chris Jordan who could miss the third match of the series against New Zealand on Sunday because of injury.
Jordan hurt his side during Friday’s contest at The Oval and will face a fitness test ahead of this weekend's match at the Ageas Bowl.
The 21-year-old Overton has played 15 List A matches for Somerset, averaging 54.20 with the ball and 10.54 with the bat.
A tweet from the England camp on Saturday read: "Craig Overton has been called up as cover while we wait for an update on Chris Jordan's side injury."
In Friday’s match in south London, Jordan had bowling figures of 97-1 which were the second worst by an England player in ODI history.
The call-up for Overton comes as something of a surprise as Northamptonshire all-rounder David Willey is already in the squad, and did not feature in either of the opening two matches.
The Royal London series is tied at 1-1 with further matches to be played in Southampton (Sunday, June 14), Nottingham (Wednesday, June 17) and Chester-le-Street (Saturday, June 20).
