Compton told Sky Sports News HQ: “It is the brainchild of Mowbray Jackson and Hugh Grant, who decided to start this cricket match to give back to the servicemen who come home.”

Asked about some of the actors who would be participating, he said: “Matthew Lewis (who starred in the Harry Potter films), Paul Blackthorn, who was in ‘24’, Joe Sims, who was in Broadchurch, and Jack Ashton (from Call The Midwife).

“I don’t really know about their cricketing credentials if I am honest but they are certainly good at what they do.

“I will be guarding my wicket dearly if anyone like Hugh Grant comes on to bowl!”
