Australia wicketkeeper Peter Nevill says there is no question of any bad blood between himself and Brad Haddin, who he has replaced in the team.

And, speaking ahead of the fourth Investec Ashes Test at Trent Bridge on Thursday, Nevill stressed that Haddin’s assistance is proving invaluable to him.

The experienced Haddin played in the first Test at Cardiff, where Australia were comprehensively beaten, but had to miss the second Test at Lord’s for family reasons.

Nevill therefore came in to make his Test debut and performed well enough in Australia’s thumping 405-run victory to retain his place for the third Test at Edgbaston.

However, that decision came in for a lot of criticism, with several former Aussie greats saying Haddin should not have ended up losing his place because of a family emergency.

Australia then suffered an eight-wicket defeat in the third Test but Nevill showed impressive application to bat for three hours and score 59 in the second innings, and looks sure to retain his place this week.

And the 29-year-old says that Haddin, a team-mate of his at New South Wales, has handled the situation with total professionalism.

"I have been able to remain pretty focused and the great thing has been Brad Haddin," said Nevill. "He has been helping me prepare as best I can to play in these Test matches.

"And, just the way he has carried himself, as per usual, he is just a wonderful person and a very selfless person, and he is always fun to be around.

"I have known Brad for a long time and I would expect nothing less from him. He is just a quality person through and through."

Asked if he had found it awkward to play his first two Tests against a backdrop of apparent discord, Nevill added: "Not really, I have not focused on it at all.

"I have just kept my head down and focused on what I can do to get prepared to do the job I have been picked to do in the team."
