Derbyshire have signed pace bowler Andy Carter from Nottinghamshire.

The former England Lions player will leave Trent Bridge at the end of the season and join Derbyshire on a two-year contract.

Carter has 91 first-class wickets at 27 each since making his debut in 2009, but he spent time on loan at Glamorgan this season after struggling for games at Notts.

He told the Derbyshire website: "I'm at the point in my career where I feel like I need to be playing regularly. I've got loads to give and hopefully I can get a good run of games and help the club get results on the field."

Carter took 16 wickets in four Championship games with Glamorgan this season, and Derbyshire's elite performance director Graeme Welch said: "He has shown this summer he can be an effective bowler when he gets a chance to play regular cricket.

"With the backroom team we have, we are confident that Andy can continue to improve and be a consistent performer for us for years to come."
