Yorkshire have signed Jake Lehmann - son of Australia coach Darren - for the rest of the season.

A left-handed batsman, just like his father, Lehmann is currently representing Australia A in Townsville against South Africa.

Father Darren is an iconic player at Headingley - he played for the club from 1997 to 2006 and is regarded as their most successful overseas player. He averaged 68.76 and in 2001 helped them win the County Championship for the first time since 1968.

His son will only be able to play in County Championship matches, and should arrive in England in time to play against Lancashire on Saturday.

He replaces compatriot Travis Head - who has been called into the Australia squad for the ODI series with Sri Lanka - as the club's overseas player.

Head coach Jason Gillespie said: "Getting a player of quality is always difficult at this stage of the season, but we're delighted to secure the services of Jake.

"Things happened pretty quickly, triggered by Travis being called into the Australia squad and hopefully he goes on to get a game. Cricket Australia were fantastic to deal with and coordinating with South Australia went fantastically well and we were able to arrange for Jake to come over.

"He's a great kid, gives the ball a whack and has shown good nous and awareness.

"Having worked with him at the [Adelaide] Strikers he'll fit in to the changing room too, as all our players do. I just hope that he has a good time with us, enjoys himself and contributes to some good wins for Yorkshire."
