Warwickshire have announced that director of cricket Dougie Brown has left Edgbaston by mutual consent after 27 years at the club.

Former international all-rounder Brown, who has spent his entire professional career on and off the pitch at Edgbaston, has explained the club is not where it "should be".

Under Brown's leadership, Warwickshire won two trophies, the T20 Blast in 2014 and One-Day Cup last month, but only managed to avoid relegation in their final Championship game.

Brown, who first joined Warwickshire as a Second XI player in 1989, feels it is the right time to step away.

"The club has a very proud history of challenging for silverware and despite winning the Royal London One-Day Cup this season, failure to qualify for the NatWest T20 Blast quarter finals and narrowly avoiding relegation from Division One of the Specsavers County Championship on the last day of the season is not where the club should be," Brown said.

"It is, therefore, the right time for me to agree to step down from my role as Director of Cricket.

"I wish the club and the players all the very best in 2017 and thank everyone for a fantastic journey over the past 27 years."

Brown, 46, is leaving a role he took over from his former team-mate Ashley Giles in 2012. He joined Warwickshire's coaching staff four years previously, following a playing career which brought him 27 limited-overs caps for England and his native Scotland.

"Dougie is a true Bear, having served the club with great distinction for many years as a player, coach and Director of Cricket," Neil Snowball, Chief Executive of Warwickshire CCC, said.

"On behalf of the players, members and supporters, I would like to thank him for everything that he has contributed to Warwickshire CCC and wish him the very best for the future."
