Warwickshire opening batsman Ian Westwood has suffered a broken finger and will be out for around six weeks.

The left-hander was injured while playing for Moseley against Wolverhampton in the Birmingham League, just days after hitting 99 for Warwickshire in the championship against Somerset last weekend.

It is not the first time injury has struck the former Warwickshire captain just at a time that he was hitting top form.

He already has a plate and four screws in one hand and previous injuries include both little fingers and an index-finger broken, a smashed thumb, cracked wrist and broken rib and, last year, ruptured ankle ligaments.

It is also another blow for injury-hit Warwickshire and means a recall for Laurie Evans, who lost his place after poor early-season form. Rikki Clarke has also returned to the team in place of Chris Woakes.
