Paul Coughlin will not join the exodus of players leaving Durham after signing a new three-year deal, the county have announced.

With key players Mark Stoneman and Scott Borthwick both rejecting new contracts in favour of moves to Surrey, all-rounder Coughlin has opted to follow in the footsteps of prolific opening batsman Keaton Jennings and England international Ben Stokes and stay at Chester-le-Street.

Coughlin, who will remain with the club until 2019, said: "I'm over the moon to have signed a new deal at Durham and delighted that the club has shown faith in my ability.
