Mark Wood has had to withdraw from the England Lions one-day series against Sri Lanka A next month.
The Durham fast-bowler underwent surgery on his left ankle during autumn and, although his rehabilitation is progressing well, he is still not ready to make his return to competitive cricket.
Wood recently returned from the ECB's warm-weather training camp at Potchefstroom, South Africa, and the national selectors have decided he would benefit from spending three more weeks' training at home.
He will then travel to Dubai to compete in the North-South Series, with the aim of reaching full fitness ahead of the domestic season in April.
An ECB statement reads: "There are no plans for Wood to be replaced in the Lions squad for the five-match one-day series against Sri Lanka A, which begins in Dambulla on March 2."
England Lions ODI squad: K Jennings (Durham), D Bell-Drummond (Kent), T Alsop (Hampshire), B Duckett (Northamptonshire), J Clarke (Worcestershire), L Livingstone (Lancashire), B Foakes (Surrey), S Curran (Surrey), T Curran (Surrey), C Overton (Somerset), T Helm (Middlesex), J Fuller (Middlesex), O Rayner (Middlesex), J Poysden (Warwickshire), G White (Northamptonshire).
The three-match North-South Series begins at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on March 17, with Wood in a 13-man North squad that will be captained by his Durham team-mate Keaton Jennings.
