Jimmy Adams has stepped down as Hampshire's County Championship captain to focus on his batting.

The opening batsman has made three Championship half-centuries this season but has lost form of late and will now hand over the duties to James Vince, who already leads the county in limited-overs cricket.

Vince will have the task of trying to keep Hampshire in Division One, with his side bottom of the table and 22 points adrift of Worcestershire and Sussex, with six matches of the campaign still to play.

"Jimmy feels that the most important thing right now is for him to focus on his batting and to get back to scoring runs at the top of the order,” said Hampshire director of cricket Giles White.
