England and Nottinghamshire opening batsman Alex Hales has taken an indefinite break from cricket due to 'personal reasons'.
Hales, who was named in England's provisional squad for the Cricket World Cup, excused himself from the county's Royal London One-Day cup match against Lancashire at Trent Bridge on Friday.
Nottinghamshire released a statement saying: "Alex Hales has made himself unavailable for selection for personal reasons and no timetable has been set for his return to action."
It is unclear if Hales' indefinite break from cricket means the 30-year-old will miss England's three-day training camp in Cardiff next Saturday, and whether or not his involvement in the World Cup is now in doubt.
The Nottinghamshire opener had been a key member of England's one-day international team until the ban and fine he received for his involvement in an incident at a Bristol nightclub in September 2017, which ultimately saw all-rounder Ben Stokes acquitted of affray, cost him his place.
Next up for England is an ODI against Ireland on May 3, before a five-match ODI series and Twenty20 international against Pakistan.
