Seamer Yasir Arafat has joined Somerset on loan from Hampshire for the 2016 season.

The 34-year-old former Pakistan international will be a non-overseas player for Somerset and available for all white ball cricket throughout the summer.

Arafat has played in a number of Twenty20 leagues around the world in recent seasons, and most recently played in the Masters Champions League for the Sagittarius Strikers alongside the likes of Adam Gilchrist and Jonathan Trott.

Arafat played for Somerset back in 2013, quickly becoming a favourite at the County Ground, and director of cricket Matt Maynard is pleased to have him on board for a second stint.

"We are absolutely delighted to have secured the services of another world class player," Maynard told Somerset's website.

"We are really pleased to see Yasir returning to the Cooper Associates County Ground. He is a proven performer in white ball cricket and is one of the best in the business in terms of bowling at the end of an innings.

"Following the departure of Alfonso Thomas at the end of last season it was felt that we lacked a little bit of experience in our bowling attack and Yasir will certainly bring that.

"He also made quite an impression when he was last here and we are looking forward to seeing him do what he does best in a Somerset shirt."
