Somerset have signed South Africa batsman Colin Ingram to replace compatriot Alviro Petersen whilst the latter is away playing Test cricket for his country in July.
Left-handed Ingram has played in 31 ODIs for South Africa and averages over 40 in 50-over cricket.
The 28-year-old represented his country in the Champions Trophy last year where he scored a match winning 73 against the West Indies to take his team through to the semi-finals.
Ingram said: “I am really looking forward to joining Somerset. It will be my first experience of County Cricket and I can’t wait to experience the vibe around it which everyone talks about.
"Cricket-wise I just want to get stuck in and perform for the team and keep on delivering like Alviro has been doing.”
Somerset director of Cricket Dave Nosworthy said: “Finding quality overseas replacements is really tough these days due the various International tour schedules.
"Nevertheless we have managed to source one in Colin Ingram and I am looking forward to his arrival.
"Colin has represented South Africa predominantly in ODIs and will fit the gap perfectly left by Alviro.”
During Petersen’s five-week absence in Sri Lanka, Somerset have one County Championship match, seven Royal London Insurance 50-over matches, and a minimum of four NatWest Blast T20 matches that Ingram will be eligible play in.
