Joe Root suffered a painful start to England's World Twenty20 preparations after being struck in the face during catching practice.

The England vice-captain joined team-mates for a light session at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium but was soon smarting when a catch sent down by head coach Trevor Bayliss was parried in his direction.

He had no time to react and quickly turned away after being hit by the ball.

Root initially appeared shaken, bending over and bringing his hands to his face several times before moving towards physio Craig de Weymarn.
