Waqar Younis is confident his young Pakistan squad will benefit from their 3-1 ODI defeat by England in the United Arab Emirates.

England closed out the four-match one-day international series with an 84-run victory on Friday after Jos Buttler struck an unbeaten 116 from 52 deliveries to steer the tourists to 355-5 from 50 overs.

Pakistan opened the series with a win before losing the final three fixtures, and their head coach Waqar admitted the series was disappointing for his side.

"We started off well but unfortunately we couldn't finish it well," said Waqar. "This is a young team and it's a learning curve for them.

"When you lose, criticism comes and all the positive criticism has to be worked on."

Looking ahead to the 2019 ODI World Cup in England, the top eight teams in the ICC Ranking qualify automatically for the tournament, leaving those below that mark to take part in a qualifying competition.

As for the importance of staying in the top eight, Waqar added: "I don't think that's a concern or builds pressure.
