Opener KL Rahul has been added to India's squad for the second Test against England after recovering from injury.

Hamstring trouble sidelined the opening batsman for the drawn first Test in Rajkot, and he was expected to miss this week's follow-up in Visakhapatnam.

But a statement from the Board of Control for Cricket in India confirmed Rahul has joined 15 other squad members and is in contention to play.

The 24-year-old has been out for six weeks but made scores of 76 and 32 while playing for Karnataka in the Ranji Trophy this week.

India coach Anil Kumble said: "It's good to have him in the squad - and he's available for selection. You'd want him in the team, and that's the reason he's been included."

Gautam Gambhir returned to the side to partner Murali Vijay in Rajkot but was out for a duck in the second innings after making just 29 first time round.

Rahul has made three hundreds in nine Tests since making his debut at the end of 2014 and averages almost 38.

Kumble said: "He's got 450 Test wickets, to that's obviously experience - and he's played in India before. You need that experience - and if someone like that is available it will be a stronger unit."
