Women's Ashes: Australia and England unite to call for additional Tests for future series

England's Tammy Beaumont and Australia's Ash Gardner have called for the Women's Ashes multi-format series to include three Tests.

Beaumont and Gardner have united in appealing for two additional tests to be added to the current format.

At the moment the Women's Ashes consists of three Twenty20s (two points to the winner), three One Day Internationals (two points to the winner) and one Test match (four points to the winner).

Points are split between the teams in the event of a draw or an abandonment and the Ashes are awarded to the team with the most overall points.

Australian all-rounder Gardner was key to Australia's victory in 2023, taking 12 wickets and making 40 runs in the test, earning her the accolade of player of the match.

Gardner told reporters: "I would just love to play more Test cricket against England.

"Playing the one Test feels like a bit of a novelty at times. We have really good white-ball games against England and other teams around the world, but the way that our teams match up, it would be a really cool Test series."

Australia started the 2023 tournament well quickly jumping out to a six-point lead after winning the first T20, before England won four of the next five white-ball matches to level the series with eight points each, but Australia retained the Ashes as the current holders.

England opener Beaumont added: "I completely agree with Ash, I would love to see three, three, three."

"The best thing about the Ashes is the narrative, the rivalry, how it builds over time."

The Women's Ashes in 2025 will continue with the seven-match format, with the Test being played as the final match as the first day-night test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

The 2025 series begins on January 12.
