Former Pakistan captain in talks with rebel league
Former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq has been in talks with organisers of the Indian Cricket League (ICL) regarding his involvement in the breakaway series.
Inzamam, 37, retired from one-day cricket in March after Pakistan's first-round exit from the World Cup and was not one of the 20 players who were given central contracts last month meaning that he is free to feature in the series.
The rebel league is being promoted by India's largest listed media group, Zee Telefilms but dates and venues have yet to be announced.
Inzamam believes that being part of the series is a prospect not to miss. He told the AFP: "I was contacted by the ICL when I was in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia last week and since I am not under a Pakistan Cricket Board contract I see it as an opportunity.
"There is no international cricket to get the required match practice and I think by joining this league I will get an opportunity to get that and play Test cricket whenever I get a chance.
"I will only decide after seeing the terms and conditions. My top priority is still to get 10,000 runs in Test cricket for Pakistan."
However, Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Nasim Ashraf has quashed Inzamam's hopes of playing in both the ICL and Test matches by stating that any player joining the rebel series would be ruled out of future internationals.
Speaking to the AFP, Ashraf said: "Our position on the breakaway Indian league is clear and firm. Since it is not approved by the ICC any player joining it will not be considered for future selection.
"No current player will be allowed to sign the league and all cricket boards of the world have this same stance."
