Somerset captain Justin Langer is set to sign a one-year contract extension.
Somerset captain Justin Langer is set to sign a one-year contract extension with the county later this week. The 36-year-old batsman agreed to skipper Somerset following Australia's Ashes triumph against England last winter. In the aftermath of the 5-0 series whitewash, Langer announced his retirement from international cricket. He also enjoyed a six-week spell with Somerset last summer, when he made his highest first-class score, 342, in an LV County Championship match against Surrey. Langer also played county cricket for Middlesex between 1998 and 2000. Director of cricket Brian Rose told Somerset's official website: "Justin has already publicly stated that he wants to come back and play for Somerset in 2008. "He is thoroughly enjoying his cricket with Somerset and has been making positive noises, in addition to which his family are enjoying their time over here in England as well." Chief executive Richard Gould added: "Discussions with Justin regarding his likely return to Somerset for next season are at an advanced stage and an official announcement will be made later this week."
