Former England paceman James Ormond has been rewarded with a new one-year deal with Surrey after proving his fitness on a non-contract basis. Since arriving at the Oval from Leicestershire in 2002, Ormond has struggled with injuries, however the Brown Caps management decided to let the 30-year-old train with the county over the winter with a view to earning an extension based on his condition. Ormond has secured a further 12-month deal having impressed at the start of the LV County Championship campaign after taking four wickets in the opening two matches against Lancashire and Durham.

Butcher praise

Captain Mark Butcher said: "I am very pleased that Jimmy has worked so hard to turn his career around. "He is looking like the bowler he was three years ago before his injury problems, which is great news for the club." Ormond added: "I am obviously really pleased to get a contract after putting in a lot of hard work during the winter. "I'd also like to thank our backroom staff for their efforts in getting me fit and ready for another season."
