Left-hander heading Down Under to play in Australia this winter

Yorkshire have rewarded former England under-21 batsman Adam Lyth for his fine form in 2008 with a three-year contract. The 21-year-old was named the White Rose county's young player of the year for the last campaign after impressing in the first XI. The Whitby-born left-hander played in 14 LV County Championship fixtures last season and hit a maiden first-class century against Nottinghamshire. "It was always my dream to play cricket for Yorkshire, 2008 has gone really well for me and my challenge now is to continue the hard work into 2009 and beyond," Lyth said. "I'm delighted to have signed a three-year deal as this is where I want to play my cricket and I think there are exciting times ahead for the club." Lyth will spend three months this winter playing cricket Down Under before joining up with the rest of the Yorkshire squad for their pre-season tour to the United Arab Emirates.
