Derbyshire look to the future

Derbyshire have released batsman Wavell Hinds and leg-spinner Mark Lawson. West Indies international Hinds completed two seasons at Derby's County Ground on a Kolpak contract, while Lawson lasted only one season following his move from Yorkshire. Hinds scored two first-class centuries and five fifties in his time with the club, averaging 33.72. Lawson took four wickets in six championship matches. "Wavell has added some international class to our batting line-up as well as plenty of valuable experience in the dressing room for the past two years," said Derbyshire's head of cricket John Morris. "However, with our young batsmen coming through and the Kolpak penalties to be taken into account, we have decided to look at different options for 2010. "Mark has given his all for the cause in 2009 and he is a talented bowler who performed well for us at times. "However, his opportunities to play first-team cricket became few and far between during the second half of the campaign and, again, we have elected to explore different options ahead of next season."
