Bangladesh have left fit-again opening batsman Tamim Iqbal out of their squad for this month's Asia Cup.
Batsman handed reserve role
Bangladesh have left opening batsman Tamim Iqbal out of their squad for this month's Asia Cup.
The left-hander, who has recovered from a groin injury that restricted him to two appearances in the recent Bangladesh Premier League, is among five reserves.
Tamim's omission is one of several changes from the Tigers' last one-day international series, against Pakistan in December.
All-rounder Mashrafe Mortaza, who has not played for Bangladesh since last April, has been rewarded for leading Dhaka Gladiators to victory in the inaugural BPL with a recall.
Call-ups
Five players that did not face Pakistan in December have been called up to the squad. They are Mortaza, batsman Nazimuddin, wicketkeeper-batsmen Jahurul Islam and Anamul Haque - the only uncapped member of the squad - and fast bowler Shahadat Hossain.
Alok Kapali, Shahriar Nafees, Naeem Islam and Rubel Hossain have been dropped. Tamim and all-rounder Farhad Reza, who was also part of the Pakistan series, are on the reserve list along with Shuvagata Hom, Enamul Haque and Abul Hasan.
A captain and vice-captain were not named with the squad but will be announced shortly, with the tournament getting underway on Sunday.
