England v India ODI series: Batsman Ian Bell ruled out of final ODI against India

Ian Bell has been ruled out Friday's final one-day international between England and India because of a broken toe.

The Warwickshire batsman was injured during throw-downs ahead of the fourth clash in Birmingham and subsequent X-rays confirmed a small fracture of his left big toe.

With Bell unable to help England in their attempt to salvage some pride from a disastrous ODI series, the hosts are expected to keep faith with the man who replaced him for Tuesday's nine-wicket defeat - Yorkshire's Gary Ballance.

A statement on the ECB website read: "England and Warwickshire batsman Ian Bell has been ruled out of the final Royal London one-day international against India on Friday with a small fracture to his big left toe sustained yesterday before the one-day international at Edgbaston.

"Bell will not be replaced in the squad for the remaining match."

England head for Leeds 3-0 down and the five-match series already lost, with many calling Alastair Cook's suitability as a limited-overs captain into question.
