West Indies reached 246-3 on the opening day of the second Test after being sent in to bat by Bangladesh in St Lucia.
Kraigg Brathwaite (63) and Test debutant Leon Johnson (66) batted deep into the afternoon session in putting on an opening stand of 143.
Both fell in quick succession and No 3 Kirk Edwards (16) also went cheaply as West Indies were briefly pegged back at 185-3.
But Darren Bravo and Shivnarine Chanderpaul shared an unbroken fourth-wicket stand of 61 to see West Indies - who lead the two-match series after a 10-wicket win in the first Test - through to stumps without further loss.
