Peter Wright will kick-off his title defence, while there will be a touch of 50 shades of Steve Beaton on a bumper opening night of the PDC World Darts Championship.

Steve West, who reached the last 16 of the tournament in 2018, will open proceedings against India's Amit Gilitwala in a first-round tie at Alexandra Palace which will see 1,000 fans in attendance for each session with strict coronavirus guidance in place.

The winner of that tie will play reigning world champion, Wright, in a second-round clash scheduled for the last match of the night.

Wright, 50, claimed his maiden world title on New Year's Day when he defeated world No 1 Michael van Gerwen in the final.

Also in action, The Bronzed Adonis Beaton will be making a record-breaking 30th consecutive Worlds appearance when he takes on Brazil's Diogo Portela, and Canadian ace Jeff Smith goes up against highly-rated 18-year-old Keane Barry from Ireland.
