Rob Cross claimed a maiden Pro Tour title with victory in Saturday's Players Championship event in Barnsley with Simon Whitlock claiming Sunday's honours.
Kim Huybrechts also had a memorable day in Barnsley as he hit a perfect leg in his opening match against Sven Groen on Saturday before being beaten by Jamie Caven in the second round.
Cross, who has put together an impressive run of results since joining the ProTour less than three months ago, was at it again to claim Saturday's honours at the Metrodome.
Alan Norris, Max Hopp and Richie Burnett were all beat by the man from Sussex as he made his way to the last 16.
A 6-4 victory over Cavan moved Cross, who won last year's Unicorn Challenge Tour, into the quarter-final where he faced Raymond van Barneveld who he beat by the same scoreline to advance to the last four.
Cross then dispatched last weekend's UK Open runner-up Gerwyn Price, recovering from 3-1 down to seal a 6-4 victory and a place in his first final.
None of the top ten seeds made it to the quarter-finals with Michael van Gerwen, Gary Anderson and Peter Wright all being beaten early.
World number one Van Gerwen came unstuck against William O'Connor, two-time World Champion Anderson was beaten by Daryl Gurney and Paul Nicholson accounted for newly crowned UK Open champion Wright.
Mervyn King stood between Cross and his memorable moment having beaten Brian Woods, Jeffrey de Graaf, James Wade, Martin Schindler, Ritchie Edhouse and Steve West on his way to a first final on the circuit since 2014.
In a evenly contested affair that went all the way to an 11th leg shoot-out if was Cross who held his nerve to claim the title and the £10,000 price.
Cross was unable to progress beyond the last 32 on Sunday, losing to Ian White, while in-form Whitlock claimed Players Championship Four and his third PDC ranking title of the year.
The Aussie beat Scott Darbyshire, Devon Petersen and Andy Jenkins to reach the last 16 where he beat Price before a quarter-final victory over Gary Anderson and a semi-final victory over Huybrechts saw him through to the final.
Standing in his way was surprise package Darren Johnson who enjoyed a fairytale run in Yorkshire for his best ever performance on the PDC circuit.
Dave Chisnall and Van Barneveld suffered early exits to Johnson before Jimmy Hendriks, Benito van de Pas and Steve Hine were all seen off.
Johnson then saw off MVG in the semi-final, holding his nerve after the world champion recovered to level at 5-5, the man from Mexborough booked his place in the final with a brilliant 13-dart leg.
In the final, Whitlock raced into a 3-0 lead which he soon extended to a 5-1 advantage. Johnson survived missed match days to pull back a couple of legs but it was Whitlock's day and the Aussie's title.
Joe Cullen landed his first competitive nine-dart finish as he hit the 11th perfect leg of the year during his second round win over Jim Brown.
