Current Lakeside champion Glen Durrant and runner-up Danny Noppert had already secured places alongside BDO World Trophy winner Peter Machin and they have been joined by the next five non-qualified players from the BDO rankings.

To the delight of the Wolverhampton Civic Hall crowd, Wolverhampton's very own Jamie Hughes - who reached the second round on his debut last year - has made the field and Mitchell will also be on hand to make a third successive Grand Slam appearance.

England's McGeeney, the World Masters finalist in 2016 and 2017 and the man who currently tops the BDO rankings, will make his Grand Slam debut as will Scottish pair Ross Montgomery and Cameron Menzies.

Gurney and Whitlock's qualification means the PDC numbers are up to 14 qualifiers and spots remain up for grabs for the finalists at the European Championship and World Series of Darts if those reaching that stage have not already qualified.

A final eight places are on offer at the PDC Tour Card Holders' Qualifier on Monday November 6 for the £450,000 tournament where the first round splits the 32 players split into eight groups, the top two in each following the round robin phase progress to the last 16 who proceeds in straight knockout format.
