Mick Schumacher finished eighth in his first Formula 2 race on Saturday, with Nicholas Latifi a comfortable winner in Bahrain's season-opener.
Schumacher, son of seven-time F1 world champion Michael and part of the Ferrari driver academy, enjoyed a strong debut as he made up two places from his starting position to collect four points in the feeder series' Feature Race.
The eighth-placed finish also means Schumacher will be on pole position for the second Bahrain race, with Sky Sports F1's build-up starting at 12.10pm on Sunday.
The 20-year-old, who is testing for Ferrari in Bahrain next week, looked impressive in wheel-to-wheel battles in his Prema - particularly with Nikita Mazepin before overtaking Nobuharu Matsushita on the final lap.
It was Latifi who started the season off on top for DAMS - the Williams reserve driver winning ahead of pole-sitter Luca Ghiotto, who had a nightmare getaway off the line and dropped to sixth on the first lap.
Sergio Sette Camara, the McLaren driver and one of the favourites for the championship, had a difficult start himself but completed the podium in third.
Renault protege Jack Aitken was the top-placed Brit in seventh, while Callum Ilott recovered from his qualifying crash to finish 14th, with Jordan King 16th.
Tatiana Calderon, meanwhile, the first female driver in the current F2 championship, was 13th in a strong opening result.
Schumacher's Prema team-mate Sean Gelael was the only driver not to finish after a bizarre spin under DRS into Turn One.
What next for Schumacher?
The Bahrain sprint race takes place on Sunday and Sky Sports F1's build-up starts at 12.10pm, with Schumacher on pole.
After that, Schumacher will be driving an F1 car for the first time as he tests a Ferrari in the in-season test on Tuesday, and an Alfa Romeo on Wednesday.
The German's legendary father, Michael, is Ferrari's most successful-ever driver, winning five of his seven world championships during a record-breaking decade at Maranello.
