Diarmuid O'Connor has been named as captain of the Mayo footballers foe 2019.

The Ballintubber clubman takes on the role as the Connacht side look to bounce back from a disappointing 2018.

A two-time Young Footballer of the Year, O'Connor is revered one of the most talented footballers in the country. Having made his debut against New York five years ago, he will lead the side to the Big Apple once again as Mayo open their championship campaign at Gaelic Park.

Paddy Durcan has been selected as vice-captain.

Should they come through the New York test unscathed, they will face the winner of Roscommon v Leitrim in the Connacht semi-final.

Drawn on the opposite side of the Connacht Championship to Galway, the men in green and red will be hopeful of regaining the provincial title this summer. Having lost to the Tribesmen in the last three summers, O'Connor and Co will understand the importance of overcoming their western rivals to reach the Super 8s.
