Ha Na Jang stormed to the top of the leaderboard in the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia with a bogey-free six-under-par 65 on Friday.
Jang fired four birdies on the back nine including three in consecutive holes between 14 and 16, to hold a one-shot advantage over first-round leader Xi Yu Lin.
Alison Lee, the co-leader at the end of round one, ended the day two strokes behind Jang on eight-under par, alongside world No 1 Inbee Park and Yani Tseng.
But it was Jang who finished with the outright lead, and the rookie is hoping to clinch her first LPGA Tour win.
"I think today is a really good round because no bogey today," Jang said.
"Just six birdies straight, so I think it's two weeks since I won the Korea tournament, so it's a little bit more confident. No pressure today. It's like a little more simple. It's a really good round today."
World No 2 Lydia Ko posted a six-under-par 65 to fire her way back into contention at six under for the tournament.
Anna Nordqvist and Catriona Matthews finished on four under after scores of 67 and 68 respectively, while Michelle Wie fell back to six shots of the pace after a disappointing second-round 72.
