Colin Montgomerie may already have a second successive Order of Merit title secured, but the European Senior Tour No 1 still wants to end his year on a high with victory at the season-ending MCB Tour Championship in Mauritius this month.

The Scot could break his own record for Senior Tour season earnings with a top-10 finish next week, with the 52-year-old more than €400,000 clear of nearest challenger Peter Fowler at the top of the money standings.

Montgomerie built up an unassailable advantage over the chasing pack by winning a second successive US Senior PGA Championship title and also claiming Travis Perkins Masters victory, but heads to the final event of the year looking to reach the winners circle for an eighth time since joining the tour in 2013.

"To win the John Jacobs Trophy in my first two full seasons on the Senior Tour is a real honour," Montgomerie said. "Hopefully I can round off another great year with a good performance in Mauritius.

"It was always going to be difficult to replicate my 2014 season, but to defend my US Senior PGA title, win the Travis Perkins Senior Masters for the third time and come close in both the US Senior Open and Senior Open Championship; it has to go down as another successful campaign."

Former Ryder Cup-winning captain Sam Torrance and two-time senior major champion Roger Champion both feature in a strong field, while defending champion Paul Wesselingh looks to win the event for the third year running after seeing off Barry Lane in a six-hole play-off 12 months ago.

Montgomerie has failed to break in to the top five in his previous two visits to the season finale, but the 31-time European Tour champion feels confident of changing that this time around.

He said: "I've finished sixth there for the past two seasons, so any improvement on that would be very nice and another win would obviously be the perfect end to the season. But irrespective of where I finish, I'm sure I'll enjoy the tournament because it's a beautiful place and a wonderful week.

"After Mauritius, I'll be packing away the clubs for a little while then getting ready for next season. I'm still as ambitious to achieve more success, and win more Majors - it's what keeps us going in this game, after all."
