Norway's Suzann Pettersen has a one-shot lead at the LPGA ANA Inspiration, after a fine day's work at Mission Hills Country Club.
However, several players have still to complete their second rounds at the first major of the year, which has been disrupted by the weather.
High winds halted play on Thursday and darkness brought proceedings to an end on Friday, although Pettersen was safely in the clubhouse by then.
After wrapping up a first-round 68 in California, she followed up with a three-under par 69 for a seven-under two-round total of 137.
"I played really good," said Pettersen.
"It really hasn't been that long of a day, but I played quite a bit of golf! Just Steady Eddie, just plugging along, hitting good shots, giving myself chances."
A quartet of players are in the clubhouse at six-under, in the shape of the seven-time major winner Inbee Park (second round of 69), Australia's Minjee Lee (68) and the Americans Nelly Korda (69) and Cristie Kerr (71).
Kerr shared the lead at the end of round one with Caroline Masson (dropped back after second round 76) and France's Karine Icher, who is still right in the hunt at six-under, with six holes of her second round still to play.
And Michelle Wie of America is also six-under, with 10 holes of her second round to be completed on Saturday.
World No 1 and defending champion Lydia Ko of New Zealand carded a second straight 70 for 140 (four-under) - and was in a share of 11th when play was halted.
She remained neck-and-neck with Ariya Jutanugarn, the Thai who has Ko's world number one ranking in her sights and who also carded a 70 for 140.
And England's Charley Hull is also in that classy group on four-under, having followed her opening 68 with a level-par second round of 72.
Hull was runner-up last year and was six-under with four holes of her second round remaining, but bogeys at 15 and 18 took the shine off her day somewhat.
That left her three shots behind Pettersen, though there are 56 players still to complete their second round.
